Scuba Diving in Turkey

Dive Site: Balaban Island
Location: Fethiye, Turkey
Description: Wall dive
Depth: 18 – 30 metres (60 – 100 feet)
Visibility: 30 – 40 metres (100 – 130 feet)

The boat moored next to the island and we started our dive by keeping the island on our left hand side. Because you can actually swim continuously in one direction all the way around the island we kept our average depth at around 16 mt. As soon as we started following the wall we could see the dramatic deep blue below us (this is a very steep wall) with big groupers relaxing there. The first point on the island started to the holes and small cracks on the wall and you were able to look for shrimps, crayfish, lobsters and moray eels. The best part of the dive was towards the end when we saw jacks and barracuda hunting for thousands of sardines and moving them into huge bait balls.

Dive Site: Aladdin’s Cavern
Location: Fethiye, Turkey
Description: Wall / cavern dive
Depth: First cavern at 30 metres (100 feet), second cavern at 12 metres (40 feet)
Visibility: 30 metres + (100 feet)

Diving from the boat platform and swam in to the cavern which started at the surface, descended down next to the wall to 30m, and could see another 2 entrances to the small caverns which are covered with dantelle corals and red corals. Lots of shrimps live in there and outside of the cavern there were lots of big grouper. At the entrance of the ‘Turkish bath’ as you go into this hidden cavern the bottom is around 7m and the sunlight reflects off the yellow rock face and sparkles like gold. At the surface of the cavern it is so calm and the top of the cavern looks like a dome with big hole in the middle so you can see the blue sky.
