Scuba Diving in L’Estartit, Spain, Europe

July 16, 2007

Dive Site: Dolphin Cave
Location: Medas Islands, L’Estartit, Costa Brava, Spain
Description: Marine reserve cave
Depth: 10 – 30 metres (30 – 100 feet)
Visibility: 5 – 30 metres (15 – 100 feet)

I dived here in late April several years ago and visibility varied from gin clear to a bad day in Stoney Cove. However when visibility was good it was as good as Malta or the Red Sea. Dolphin Cave can be dived from either end as it is actually a tunnel. The tunnel can be quite dark so a torch would be useful for looking at things on the floor etc. It is very large so you won’t be claustrophobic – about 15m in the middle. You can see the exit as soon as you enter from each end but is a true overhead enviroment so I would recommend this for someone who has had traing past Open Water level.
