Scuba diving in Fiji – Big W, Near Maolo Island, Mamanuca

July 23, 2007

Dive Site: Big W
Location
: Near Malolo Island, Mamanuca
Description
: Wall dive
Depth
: Drops to 500m + (1500 feet)
Visibility: 100 metres (300 feet)

On the outside edge of the huge barrier reef pretty much directly west of the northern tip of Malolo Island is a huge wall dive. The wall itself drops off some 500m+ and is shaped like, a Big W. The wall starts to bottom out and one can make out the ocean floor but then there is a big circular dark black void.

The coral and marine life consists of eagle rays swimming. an occassional pilot whale, a school of oddest jellyfish, a solitary tiger shark and a table-sized loggerhead turtle. The visibility is 100m+ and hence the coral looks good.
